Flicking through the book I found that paper sculpture is taken quite seriously and is a very precise art.
Below are some examples of what paper sculpture could be used for.
Arthur Sadler has created most of the paper sculpture within the book and this is a prime example of a Cockeral. The book gives exact instructions on how to make this Cockeral giving a step by step guide and a layout of what you need to make it.
Paper sculpture is also used for shop displays. The image below shows a Christmas display on Baker Street in London.
The reason for using paper for a shop display is possibly that it has some distinctive art qualities and magnificent detail. The use of paper costs considerably less than any other type of shop window display can be disposed of easily and efficiently.
Paper can be fixed in any desired position and is light to handle making it easy to create almost any design in mind.
Creating scenes to sell a product can tell a story to the audience. This is something I am going to consider when creating the packaging that sells me.
