Which style to go for?

When thinking about the form of my zine I began to think of all the different possibilities that could be. Before making a final decision I decided to make a prototype of each one of my ideas so that I could get a feel of what each one would feel like in the palm of my hand and when turning the pages. Below are the examples that I made.

The fold-out

This version is a fold out zine. When handling this I didn't feel comfortable and I didn't feel that my work would look right on this format. This is because it would have to fold out into a poster and I don't feel that my work would look right on one large space compared to if it was spread onto a series of pages. Because of this I don't feel that this is an appropriate format for my zine.

 A5 booklet

This is a basic folded booklet with a series of pages in between the two covers. This is a better format for the type of zine that I would like to produce but I'm not sure whether I want the booklet to be landscape as I feel that my work would layout better on this format.

 A6 booklet
Like the A5 booklet the layout of this is good for my style of zine although I feel that A6 is too small for the work that I would like to put on it. In this case a bigger booklet would be more appropriate.

 Concertina

I like this fold as there is a sequence to the work and it will be seen in a particular order. This concertina could also fold out into a poster and contain a wide range of images of my choice in a chosen order. Although this fold is creative and could contain a lot of illustrations or photographs I feel that I would prefer a book with turning pages as it would flow better with what I would like to illustrate.

 A5 Booklet

This A5 landscape booklet the perfect format for how I would like to present my zine. As it is landscape it the pages can hold photographs well and present them in an orderly fashion, it will also do this for any illustrations I would like to include. I like the way it holds and how the user would handle it. It is a traditional and basic design and I think that this reflects the castle market.

After looking at each design I have decided to use the A5 landscape booklet as I think that this format would present my work best.
